If I didn't mention yet, I finally did the move to LA. I got here in July and it's gone by pretty fast. Here's a quick rundown:

- I live in the Miracle Mile Projects, haha
- discovered MILK
- 2nd AD on HERPES BOY
- left turns are a totally different animal in the 323
- found out that my apt is not DirectTV compatible, BOOOO!
- member of the Brain Trust

I'm sure more things have happened, but it's all been so fast. I'll be on here more in the future talking about everything from LA life, to my newest screenplays, and whatever else I want to talk about.

Clarion, oh well.

I wish I had better news to report on this, but my stories were not deemed Clarion material for this year. Next time, next time.

Other goings on, I'm sad to say that my grandfather has passed. So I give my top 5 role models/inspirational characters in a movie because my Tatay Primitivo, that's a filipino name if I ever saw one, was a big part of how I came to be.

1. Obi Wan Kenobi - Need I say more?
2. Mr. Miyagi - No matter how much of an ass Daniel LaRusso acted, he was always there.
3. Gandalf - "You shall not pass!" Frodo gets all the credit.
4. Splinter - Good things do come in small packages and this package will up and kick your ass and may even give you rabies!
5. Benjamin " Uncle Ben" Parker - With great power, comes great responsibility. I think Manny Pacquiao even quoted him!

There you have it! You guys have any other role models/ inspirational characters from films? books? anything? Post them underneath!

I can't believe it's up! AHHHH! I love the original and was really skeptical about the American version, but after watching the trailer, I am even more skeptical! What bothers me most is the voice over guy's voice! Where did they get this guy? It just doesn't fit with the energy I know that MSG brings. Anyways there's a lot of little things that we see that have direct parallels to the original. Weird thing is the main guy's friend. Where did that guy come from?

Here's a clip from the original to tide all of us over till the American one is released. Here's hoping for the best...

I am currently reading a book that I some hw put off for a long while.

I actually bought the book from a store where the author use to hang out at. You guys familiar with it? City Lights in San Francisco? Anyways I gotta make this entry quick because I got to get back to doing some other things.

1. Anyone else excited for tonight's episode of Lost?
2. Watch ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, then rewatch it with the commentary! Amazing!

Little Miss Film Fest

Today I did the whole Cinequest thing and skipped out on work. It was... DAY OF THE WRITER! (cue drums) Yeah I know, no one cares, but hey it was a good time. First we got two lectures about screenwriting from two San Jose State film professors. It was real interesting stuff and Albert (one of my old students) seemed like he learned a lot. The biggest thing I took away was some stuff that was said in the second lecture about hanging the story on the spine. Cool stuff if you are a writer, but if you are not you probably left my blog already.

Anyways, the big event of the day was to award Michael Arndt (Screenwriter, Little Miss Sunshine) with Cinequest's highest award, the Maverick Spirit award. Michael was interviewed by Richard Walter, the famous film prof from UCLA. Overall it was a real good time with Michael sharing his experience and his views on screenwriting and Richard sidebusting jokes about everything. Richard had a good one about how Africa needed more screenwriters. I know the punchline sounds a bit harsh, but Michael set him up perfectly and Richard just had to say it.

The rest of the day I chilled with N8past and Yasmine at the fest. The big movie we got to check out was the world premiere for Glory Boy Days! This was an impressive debut film from local San Jose filmmaker Paul Encinas. If you didn't get to watch it, don't worry, there's more screenings, I'm sure of it!

What's past Infinity?

Right now I'm finishing White Light by Rudy Rucker, a book I recommend to all the Sci-Fi geeks and anyone that wants to know what is past infinity.

On Deck I got On The Road by Jack Kerouac and also Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny.

I don't really ever know how I start reading a book, but somehow something leads me to popping one open. This movie, leads me to this book, which leads me to this song, that leads me to some store, and finally back to a book and so on. Horrible sentence, but that's what blogs are for! I don't know about you guys, but I'm a book hor. If I see a book that I like I end up buying it somehow, I actually do this thing where I rtake a picture of a book at say Borders, and then go home and buy it on Half.com for, well, HALF THE PRICE! haha! I love technology and I love you! haha!

So next time you say, "$15 for that?" Don't do it! Take a pic on your Razor, and look it up online!

This is common sense to anyone living with a computer, but whatever!

News Story!

Just finished my two short stories for the Clarion workshop. I hope I get in. My two short stories were called 'Thought Station' and 'Toy Airplane'. I did my best momma! Thought Station is more like a dream and Toy Airplane is a kind of detective story set in my hometown of Sunnyvale. Big reasons why I want to go to Clarion? Well the instructors are freakin' geniuses at their craft and I want to be a better writer!
